Join a world leading research team at the National Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry Imaging (NiCE-MSI) at the UK`s National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

NiCE-MSI is establishing a CAMECA NanoSIMS 50L facility for high-resolution biomedical imaging to support UK industry and biomedical research. We are seeking a post-doctoral (or equivalent experience) scientist to manage and operate the CAMECA NanoSIMS facility. This post will involve: acquisition and interpretation of data for internal investigators and external users; maximising the impact of this important capability through connecting and collaborating with industry and biomedical researchers. Additionally the duties include ensuring the instrument is maintained, calibrated and has optimal performance. Opportunities for research & development of methods, metrology and the instrumentation are encouraged.
Candidates must have an interest in instrumentation and have proven analytical skills. The successful candidate must be able to interact effectively with other researchers and have good written communication skills. Experience with secondary ion mass spectrometry and especially NanoSIMS is desirable.
The post holder will work closely with a higher research scientist managing the unique NPL 3D OrbiSIMS facility. This powerful new instrument, built from an NPL concept, has recently been installed at NPL. It has the highest simultaneous spatial resolution and mass resolving power providing unique capability for label-free 3D imaging of cells, bacteria and tissue.
